Trevor Sipes has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2020 Political Courage Test.
| Pro-life | Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| I believe that life starts at conception and ends with a natural death. We need to do anything in our power to assure that life will be preserved. | |||
| No | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| No | Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare? | ||
| Federal funding doesn't need to be expanded to fix Social Security and Medicare. We need to stop federal money from going into places that are wasteful, like expanded Medicaid/welfare, foreign countries that refuse to support the U.S., groups that use the money to lobby to political parties (i.e. Planned Parenthood), etc. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| Politicians should not feel compelled to support special interest groups, corps, and unions over their constituents. | |||
| Yes | Do you support increasing defense spending? | ||
| Our military must always be kept strong. Our soldiers deserve to be fully supported by the country they are defending. With the implementation of Space Force, we will need to increase the defense budget in order to keep our orbit safe and defended against the growing foreign threats who have the technology to use orbit against us. | |||
| No | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19? | ||
| Federal money has shown to not be necessary to promote economic growth. Conversely, it is currently showing to keep people complacent. Lowering corporate taxes does increase the ability to hire more workers, pay them better, and keep industries stable. I do feel that our country does need some help from the COVID shutdowns. No business or individual, outside of the government, caused this economic disaster to happen. A small spark is necessary to get us back on our feet. The small business owner deserves the same rights that are afforded to corporations. | |||
| No | Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards? | ||
| Absolutely NOT! Just as every person is different, each state is different as well. There is nothing "common" about any student. States need to adjust how public schools are funded to make it fair from inner city schools to suburbs to rural communities. The federal government cannot effectively mandate how states and districts go about setting standards. Common Core is ineffective since all people are different. | |||
| No | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)? | ||
| No | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| The development of any "renewable" energy should be done by private companies through investments outside of our federal or state governments. We need to stabilize our oil and gas industry. That must be our priority. | |||
| No | Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| The Second Amendment is very clear. We have the right be armed for individual protection and the protection of our country. Data shows very explicitly that places with more gun control also have the greatest occurrence of gun violence, in part because criminals don't obey the law. I will not support legislation that removes the rights of Americans. | |||
| Yes | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")? | ||
| No | Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19? | ||
| The "Affordable Care Act", for starters, was never affordable, and the act of "fining" someone who couldn't afford it, or chose to not enroll, in order to pay for other people's insurance is unconstitutional. The federal government needs to remove Obamacare and allow companies to compete for our business. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border? | ||
| Yes | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? | ||
| I fully support LEGAL immigration. We need to work on the processes currently in place instead of allowing anyone to come into our country. If COVID taught us anything, it really is how incredibly important border control is and will become in the future. | |||
| Yes | Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts? | ||
| Weapons of mass destruction, if they are actually proven to exist, need to be regulated. With the growth in technology, we, and our allies, are at risk of many new dangers. The goal is to make swift work of any engagement. We need to reduce our involvement in the Middle East, allow other countries to do what they feel necessary to help the situation, and focus our efforts back here at home. | |||
| No | Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)? | ||
| America first! We need to assure that we can care for our own economy. We need to bring back industries to the U.S., especially drug manufacturing. When we can make and produce in our own country, we need to decrease foreign importation in order to stabilize and grow America. | |||
| More than anything I want to see something actually get done with our healthcare system. Obamacare needs to be fully repealed, and I want to work with other healthcare professionals to build a plan that makes sense and gives us the choices we deserve. I want to make sure that our Constitution is protected at all costs from the constant attacks from the left. Republicans need leaders who are willing to be vocal. Currently our party stays very silent, which does not help our causes. I want to be one of those loud voices for conservative values. |
